Cool assignment.  I can't write the interview out for you, but I can help you get started in the right direction.

Cool assignment.  I can't write the interview out for you, but I can help you get started in the right direction.

Since you are not allowed to use "yes/no" questions, then your questions should contain words that force David and Rosalind to explain something.  Words like "describe," "explain," "What was it like . . ." and "elaborate."

Focus your questions toward things that David or Rosalind would have an opinion about.  If you focus your questions toward themes of The Chrysalids, you should be able to easily have those two characters give lengthy responses.

For example, one of the themes of the book is discrimination.  Have your Sealand reporter ask David or Rosalind about that aspect of Waknuk society.  "Why do you think that the Waknuk culture is so anti-genetic diversity?"  Or "Explain what it was like knowing that if your secret got out you might be killed."

You could ask those two characters about specific plot points too.  For example: "Could you elaborate on exactly how certain people helped you escape from the Waknuks and the Fringes?"

You could even ask a question about something that takes place after the book is over.  Your interview is obviously taking place in Sealand. Have the reporter ask David and Rosalind what their opinions of Sealand are so far.  I know it will be tempting to quickly write down ten questions and answers, but try to have a little fun with this assignment. Really let David and Rosalind express themselves through their answers.
