I think Percy would likely say that the greatest day of his life is the day that he meets his father, Poseidon, and he finds out that his mother is still alive and at home. Although Percy initially thinks that his father is disappointed in him and considers him to be a “wrongdoing” or mistake, Poseidon eventually tells Percy that he did well. “‘Do not misunderstand me,’” he says, “‘Whatever else you do, know that you are mine. You are a true son of the Sea God.’” Percy sees a “fiery kind of pride” in his father’s eyes as he says this, and so Percy knows that he isn’t just a mistake. He understands that his father does care for him and is proud of him, and this matters a great deal.
Then, he takes a cab to his mother’s home, and he is so relieved to see her alive that his eyes get “a little misty” and he “was shaking.” After watching her disappear when the Minotaur grabbed her, and then seeing her again in the Underworld, Percy really didn’t know if she was truly alive or dead, and he seemed to assume the worst. Today, though, he sees his mom, safe and healthy, and he even offers to turn Gabe to stone using Medusa’s head to free his mother from her awful husband. (She takes care of it herself later.)
