The Neoclassical style in architecture has been used to establish a sense of continuity and greatness, utilizing Greco-Roman society as an ideal. Many governmental buildings throughout Europe and the United States are built in a Neoclassical style. In the United States, use of elements of Neoclassical style in official buildings is quite purposefully intended to remind one of the origins of democracy in Ancient Greece.

In other mediums, such as drawing and bodily adornment, there is an emphasis on clean lines, realism, and bold simplicity.
