When Romeo finds Juliet asleep, seemingly dead, he takes poison he has brought with him and kills himself.
Ah, dear Juliet,
Why art thou yet so fair? shall I believe
That unsubstantial death is amorous,
And that the lean abhorred monster keeps
Thee here in dark to be his paramour?
For fear of that, I still will stay with thee … (Act 5, Scene 3)
It gets even worse from there. Juliet wakes up from her drug-imposed coma to find her husband has killed himself. She is young, and in her grief she can’t imagine living without him. The first thing she does is check to see if he has any poison left so she can kill herself the same way he killed himself.

No poison. Oh well, she takes his dagger and then stabs herself with it instead.
