How did the Industrial Revolution and its growth change the way people lived and worked?

The growth of the Industrial Revolution changed the way people lived and worked in several ways. First, increased mechanization and production caused a shift from an agrarian, farm-based society to an urban society. People moved to cities for jobs and to earn higher wages.

Second, an increase in production also led to an increase in workers and poor worker conditions. Workers were employed in what were termed "sweat shops" where working conditions were very poor....

Second, an increase in production also led to an increase in workers and poor worker conditions. Workers were employed in what were termed "sweat shops" where working conditions were very poor. As a result of these poor working conditions, workers united and formed the first labor unions. 

Third, the Industrial Revolution led to a decrease in domestication. Fewer women worked at home all day, and they worked in factories instead.  As a result, women at all class levels wanted more than the domesticated lives that had been customary. Upper-middle-class women, in particular, became more educated.
