Why does Roy ask how much Beatrice weighs in Hoot?

Roy asks Beatrice what her weight is in order to prove she would easily be able to beat him up if she wanted to, but there is no obvious reason for her to attack him.

"How much do you weigh?" Roy asked, not unpleasantly.

"Wha-uh?" Beatrice stammered.

"Well, I weigh exactly ninety-four pounds," Roy said, "and I'll bet you're at least a hundred and five. . . "

One of Beatrice's friends giggled, and Beatrice...

". . . which means you could probably knock me around the cafeteria all day long, but it wouldn't prove a darn thing," Roy said.

Beatrice is angry with Roy for attempting to chase down "the kid with no shoes." Beatrice claims she is angry with Roy for almost knocking her over trying to escape from the bus after punching Dana. Beatrice is actually mad at Roy for attempting to chase down the blond boy who is later revealed to be Beatrice's step-brother, Mullet Fingers. Roy confronts Beatrice during lunch and says he is confused about why she is upset with him. At this point, Roy points out Beatrice is much bigger than he is and would be able to beat him up if she really wanted to, but he does not see the point in her physically acting out against him. Roy understands Beatrice's anger toward him is the result of an action that he is not yet aware he has done to upset her.
