The primary purpose of the European Union is to promote peace and economic prosperity in Europe. Following World War II, the leaders of Europe understandably wanted to find a way to prevent such a catastrophic conflict from happening ever again. On a global scale, this was fulfilled through the United Nations, whose purpose is to promote global peace and well-being.
