A strong research question for Christopher Columbus would be:  What impact has the multicultural movement had on the legacy of Christopher Columbus? This question is strong because it is a contemporary question that has been extensively researched.  When the 500th anniversary of the voyage of Columbus was celebrated in 1992, something significant happened to the study of Columbus.  Scholars and students alike began to question how he was portrayed in western history classes.  In 1995, James Loewen authored a book called Lies My Teacher Told Me.  He dedicates a significant portion of the beginning of the book to refuting the story of Christopher Columbus that is narrated in American history textbooks.  Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States examines Christopher Columbus through a multicultural lens as well.  It would not be hard to compare the legacy of Columbus before and after the multicultural movement of the 1990's.
