Forgiveness is another major theme that plays out after Corrigan's death through his brother, Ciaran. Although the character Lara is partly responsible for Corrigan's death, Ciaran finds himself falling in love with her. Again, the theme of finding love and comfort in something or someone who also causes you pain is echoed throughout Ciaran and Lara's relationship.
Abelita faces a similar struggle as her memory of Corrigan is tainted by doubts that he was planning on leaving her for his religion. Abelita, Corrigan and Ciaran are forced to navigate a confusing world of blurred lines and seeming inconsistencies to find true happiness.
