A convex lens is used in a projector. If the object is located 10 cm from the lens, and the image is projected at 150 cm, what is the magnification...

Magnification is the increase in size of the appearance of an object. It does not increase the object in size, just its appearance to us. When using a convex lens, the magnification of an object is given as:

M = -Di/Do

where M is the magnification, Di is the distance of the image and Do is the distance of the object from the lens.

Magnification is the increase in size of the appearance of an object. It does not increase the object in size, just its appearance to us. When using a convex lens, the magnification of an object is given as:

M = -Di/Do

where M is the magnification, Di is the distance of the image and Do is the distance of the object from the lens.

In this case, the object is placed 10 cm from the lens, thus, Do = 10 cm

Similarly, the image is formed 150 cm from the lens and hence, Di = 150 cm

Using the equation for magnification:

M = - (150/10) = -15

Thus, the object would be magnified by a factor of 15 in this case. A negative sign indicates that the image will be inverted.

Hope this helps.
